Leopold "Butters" Stotch is a prominent character in South Park and a close friend for The boys. He is a fourth-grader in South Park Elementary. Butters' role gradually began to increase after he replaced Kenny during his temporary removal in Season Six. This allowed Butters to gain more screen time and further develop his character. He is the "innocent child" in the group and Cartman's most exploited and possibly best "friend". Butters is loosely based on Eric Stough, an animation director/producer that works on the show. His name is also a pun on the word "butterscotch", a reference to both his sweet and kind personality and his hair color. His real name is Leopold Stotch. Unlike Stan and Kenny, he has actually been called by his full name together, before, on the show.
I love Butters with all my heart. It honestly makes me sick how incredibly innocent and gullible he is, and how Cartman always takes advantage of him without Butters even realizing it. It’s so frustrating to see him being manipulated and mistreated over and over again. And it’s not just Cartman—the way his own parents treat him is downright cruel. The episode The Butters Show is one of the worst examples of this, and it makes me absolutely furious. He doesn’t deserve any of it.
That’s why I love the episodes where he’s genuinely happy, where he isn’t being used or tricked by anyone. Those moments bring me so much joy because he deserves them more than anyone. He’s such a sweet and pure character, and I just want to protect him from all the awful people around him. I love him so much, and I truly believe he deserves the entire world.
One of my favorite episodes featuring him is Marjorine, He is just so adorable in that episode. Estrogen could have honestly saved him. But regardless, he’s still incredibly cute. I also think Marjorine’s design is really nice, and honestly, I wish Butters would do crossdressing again.
